Product Look-up Page

The Product Look-up page enables you find items, of which you are interested in learning more information. You can find products a variety of ways.

Zip Code – Enter the zip code for the area you want SmartShopIt.com search in. Prices vary in different areas of the country and this will enable SmartShopIt.com to give you the price information for a specific geographic area. If we don’t have local prices (in blue) we will display national prices (in green) so you can still get a good idea of the proper prices to pay.

Product/Keyword Search – In the Product/Keyword field, enter part or the product’s entire name that you are searching for. If you are searching for a specific product, SmartShopIt will help by listing the products in its database that contain those words. When you see the name of the product you want, click on it and SmartShopIt will fill-in the name in this field. If you don’t see the name in the list, you can search on the words and SmartShopIt will display all products it has that contains those words.

You can also search for Keywords such as yogurt, tomato soup or wheat bread and SmartShopIt will display all products containing those keyword(s). (Hint: Some Keyword searches will produce very long lists of results. The more specific the Keywords, the more detailed your results will be.)

(Optional) If you want to also specify the size of the product you want to search for then enter that value in the size field and then the unit of measurement (UOM). (For example, if you enter 128 and select Fl. Oz. as the UOM, the search will look for all orange juice products that are 128 Fl. Oz. in size.)

If you search for a product and don't see it in the database, you can enter that item yourself via the Add New Product panel.

Tag Search –Not all similar products have a keyword as part of their name. Likewise dissimilar products may also have a certain keywords as part of its name, giving you more results than you want. To help with this, SmartShopIt has the ability to search by tags. Similar products will be associated with a common tag (i.e., milk whole, rice, facial tissue, etc.) Enter a tag name in the Keyword field then click on the icon and select whether you want to search My Tag or Public Tag items. Category Search – Use the category tree on the left to find a product or group of products in the same category. It’s much like browsing your local retailer by going down the aisles.

Understanding the Product Look-up results

Product – These are the products that fit your search or category selection. You can click on the product name to bring up detailed information for that product

Smart Compare – Click on the Smart Compare icon next to a product. That item will be made the target product and the Smart Compare panel will appear. Choose a comparison operator (calories (default), price, value, sodium, etc.). A comparison report of all the items on your search list will be run and sorted by the comparison operator.

Smart Buy Price – This is the regional (black) or national (green) Smart Buy Price.

My Best Price – This is the best price that you have entered into SmartShopIt for this product. This is an excellent way to track what you have paid or seen as good prices for this particular item. You can enter prices from your Shopping List, the Price Entry panel or the Product Detail Panel.

Average Price – This is the regional or national average price. You can click on this price and see the data obtained that is used to calculate this value.
